Job Summary: The Director of Youth Ministry is responsible for overseeing the faith formation and spiritual growth of high school students, grade 9-12. The role involves developing and implementing programs and activities that will guide our young people in their journey towards understanding and living the Catholic faith.
Key Responsibilities:
– Develop and implement age-appropriate programs and activities to enhance teen’s faith formation and spiritual growth.
– Provide needed preparation for those high schoolers in need of sacraments of initiation.
– Collaborate with the parish pastor and other ministry leaders to ensure that children’s faith formation is aligned with the overall vision and mission of the parish.
– Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers who will serve as catechists, and adult leaders.
– Ensure compliance with Diocesan policies and guidelines related to child safety, protection, and welfare, in particular, VIRTUS requirements.
– Ensure that the formation programs are in line with program standards and benchmarks as defined by the Diocese of Richmond
– In collaboration with our Sacramental Records Clerk, assure that sacraments received by our high schoolers are accurately recorded.
– Foster a sense of community and belonging among the youth and their families through regular communication, events, and outreach activities.
– Be available to meet with parents and families to answer questions, provide guidance, and offer spiritual support.
– Lead our student’s participation in diocesan Youth activities, especially DYC.
– Attend relevant conferences, seminars, and training sessions to stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in Youth Ministry and related topics.
– Make appropriate use of social media channels to communicate with students and parents, while maintaining compliance with diocesan policy for social media use.
Qualifications:
– Practicing Catholic, committed to living and sharing the Catholic faith.
– Ability to communicate with parents and youth in Spanish and English
– 3-5 years of experience in Youth ministry, faith formation or related ministry.
– Excellent interpersonal, and organizational skills.
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
– Ability to use or learn to use software and apps (e.g. Word, ParishSoft, Flocknote, Slack).
– Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
